FAQs
Have questions? Please reach out to our friendly team. We’re always happy to help.
Do you need a referral to see a psychologist?
No. You can book in a private session at any time without a referral, unless you would like to claim Medicare benefits.
How much does it cost to see a psychologist, and can I claim a Medicare rebate?
Session fees start from $225 for General Psychologists, $235 for Senior Psychologists, and $245 for Principal Psychologists (standard appointments between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm). For ‘after-hours’ appointments, an additional $15 surcharge applies (this includes appointments before 8:30 am and from 4:30pm on weekdays, and any weekend sessions).
If you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) and a referral from your GP, you may receive a Medicare rebate of $101.55 per appointment. Please see the Medicare rebate information in our FAQs for more details.
What's the difference between a psychologist, a psychiatrist, and a counsellor?
A psychiatrist has a medical degree and can prescribe medications. Psychiatry is focussed on managing medical aspects of mental health and providing pharmacological treatments.
Psychologists have extensive training on mental health and have a deep understanding of behaviour and mental illnesses. They are qualified to assess and diagnose mental health disorders, focusing on long-term evidence-based treatment. Comprehensive treatment may often involve collaborative care between psychiatrist and psychologist.
Counsellors do not necessarily require formal training, they can help in immediate situations and provide practical strategies for short-term issues.
When should I see a psychologist?
If you have been feeling down, experiencing low mood or plagued with anxiety and burnout, or facing challenges in life, it may be good to talk to somebody about it. It is important to take care of your mental wellbeing.
If you have any questions, our friendly team are here to help anyway we can.
