UNDERSTANDING STRESS

What is stress?

Stress is your body and mind’s response to pressure, demand, or overwhelm. In short bursts, stress can help you respond to challenges. But when stress continues for too long, it can affect your health, mood, sleep, relationships, and daily functioning.

Emotional stress

Feeling anxious, worried, irritable, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained.

Physical stress

Headaches, muscle tension, stomach problems, chest tightness, fatigue, or poor sleep.

Behavioural changes

Withdrawing from others, snapping more easily, overworking, avoiding tasks, or relying on unhealthy coping.

Cognitive stress

Racing thoughts, trouble focusing, constant planning, overthinking, or feeling unable to switch off.

Therapy can also support
sleep, mood, focus, boundaries, work stress, relationships, and feeling more able to cope day to day.
