Hello!
I'm Alec Smith
it's nice to meet you!

My Professional Experience and Therapeutic Approach
Hi, I’m Alec, a registered psychologist currently completing further training in Organisational Psychology at Reimagine Psychology Melbourne.

My experience spans across large-scale consulting, government, and smaller boutique firms, where I have worked in leadership development, major sustainability and organisational transformation projects, and workforce capability uplift initiatives.

I believe in a comprehensive approach to mental health, recognising that our emotional well-being is shaped by various aspects of our lives, including our thoughts, behaviours, relationships, and environment.

My focus is on understanding each person as a whole, addressing the root causes of distress rather than just the symptoms. By integrating evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI), I aim to empower clients to navigate their challenges.

My Background and Beliefs

Growing up in regional Victoria, mental health was not often discussed or recognised. This environment shaped my early understanding of how people navigate challenges, often without the language or support to address them.
My previous experiences in Law and later consulting led me to reconsider my path and passions. I witnessed firsthand the psychological toll of high-pressure environments, where stress, burnout, and emotional strain were often normalised. This sparked my desire to better understand and support people on a deeper level where I could channel my interest in human behaviour and well-being into meaningful work.
I recognise the profound impact of trauma, self-perception, and societal expectations on mental health and personal growth. Through my own experiences, I have come to appreciate the importance of self-compassion, resilience, and challenging ingrained beliefs. Whether in clinical work, research, or coaching, my goal is to create a safe, empowering space where individuals can explore their strengths, overcome challenges, and move toward personal growth and fulfilment.
My work is grounded in evidence-based frameworks, but I also place great importance on the human experience, recognising that every individual’s journey is unique. I use a combination of I of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) in my work.
